student scholars during West Virginia University Potomac State College’s 80th Recognition
Day Awards ceremony.
Students Madison Anderson, Nikki Cannon, Madison Sites, and Kaitlynn Spiker will
have their names inscribed on the Duke Anthony Whitmore/Henry Louis Gates, Jr.
Academic Achievement Wall, also referred to as The Scholars’ Wall.

As you heard from President Gee today, WVU and its divisional campuses will be adjusting
their May graduation ceremonies in response to the Coronavirus pandemic. I am as
disappointed as you are that we are having to take this difficult precautionary
measure, however, my goal is to keep us all safe and healthy. In place of the face-to-face
ceremony, we will be conducting a virtual one on May 9 that will help all of us,
your family, and friends, celebrate with you and commemorate your great accomplishments
and successes!
WVU Potomac State College has reinvented its Equine Management major so that students can pursue more entrepreneurial endeavors and small business enterprises as part of the Sustainable Agriculture Entrepreneurship (SAGE) program. Pictured brushing one of the College’s Quarter Horses is Darian Bender, who graduated this spring with an AAS degree in Animal Science. She is enrolled in the SAGE four-year degree program starting this fall.
I can’t tell you how much I enjoy “throwback photos” that are often posted on the WVU Potomac State College Facebook page along with the comments that ensue from former students. Just from their brief posts you can sense their sincere gratitude, passion, loyalty, and pride for this College. They often state that Potomac State not only provided them with a solid academic foundation on which they built their careers, but also provided them with some of the best years of their lives cultivating talents they didn’t know existed and friendships for a lifetime.
